The Las Cruces Fire Department will host three practice Physical Ability Tests designed to provide valuable insight into what is required, physically, to become a firefighter.
The practice tests, open to the public, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on three consecutive Saturdays: Sept. 28, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 at the Las Cruces Fire Department’s Training Tower, 1050 Crawford Blvd.
The fire department is accepting applications for fire cadets through Oct. 20, 2024. More information and the application are available online.
The practice Physical Ability Tests give prospective applicants the opportunity to:
- Observe test components: witness each component of the PAT firsthand to understand the challenges and expectations of the fire academy.
- Ask questions: engage with experienced firefighters and trainers to clarify any doubts or concerns about the testing process.
- Receive tips and guidance: learn strategies and techniques to improve your performance in each PAT task.
- Evaluate your preparedness: assess your current physical condition and identify areas that need improvement before taking the official test.
Participants are encouraged to bring water, a pen and notebook, and wear athletic clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for a physical ability test.
