Dona Ana Country Fire and Emergency services crews responded to an overnight fire Wednesday morning in Fairacers. The homeowners reported the fire to 911 just after 4 a.m. Within 14 minutes, crews from Mesilla were on scene in the 300 block of Haines Road that left extensive damage to the couple’s home. Doña Ana County Fire Chief Nick Hempel noted that smoke detectors installed in the home were not working at the time of the fire. Hempel said an initial investigation suggested a candle left unattended is likely the cause. Damage estimates were not immediately known.
