Attorney General William Barr says New Mexico’s criminal justice system needs an upgrade.
During a visit yesterday to Albuquerque along with officials with the U.S. Marshals Service, Barr criticized state judges in New Mexico who don’t often provide pretrial detention of dangerous offenders. The head of the Justice Department chided judges in New Mexico for not using the laws they have to keep dangerous offenders in pretrial detention. Barr also announced that despite such circumstances, the Justice Department’s Operation Triple Beam has led to the arrests of 327 state, local and federal fugitives wanted for homicide, weapons offenses, sex crimes, and more.
