Drought Expected to Lead to Rio Grande Water Shortage Next Year

El Paso Water officials say they’re preparing for less water to be available from the Rio Grande reservoir next year. They blame a dry monsoon season that have left water levels at Elephant Butte the lowest in seven years. The utility has passed a drought resolution to the Public Service Board to allow them to expedite the purchase and installation of equipment. Officials plan to drill six new wells and outfit another six that were drilled last year sooner than they’d anticipated.
