Two New Mexico Natives Will Fly into Space Today

Today, a crew of four will ride rocket from a launch pad southeast of El Paso carrying two natives of New Mexico. Billionaire Jeff Bezos — originally from Albuquerque — and Wally Funk from Northern New Mexico will join two others in a test flight for the market of space tourism. Funk is 82 years old and is the oldest person ever to fly into space. She and a group of women trained alongside the original Mercury Seven astronauts in the early 1960s but never flew into space. The entire trip today is expected to last about ten minutes.
